To have a Will prepared, you must make basic decisions about how you want to distribute your assets, who you want to administer our estate, and who you prefer to be the guardian of your children. These decisions need to be communicated to an attorney who will draft the will. The Personal Will Preparation System uses the following mix of materials and services so members can have their Wills drafted without having to take time for visits to a lawyer’s office:

• A Will Handbook, written in plain English, to help members understand what is involved in preparing a Will.
• A Will Questionnaire, which takes the member through a step-by-step process to instruct the attorney what the Will should achieve.
• A toll-free Will Helpline, which gives members direct access to an attorney in their state who will consult, answer questions and assist in completing the Questionnaire.
• A Summary of Assets and Liabilities, making clear what the member owns and what his or her current debts are. Using the summary, the lawyer can be certain that the basic will is appropriate for them.
• An Inventory of Estate Property, so that heirs can more easily locate the property they are supposed to get.

Wills are prepared by lawyers in your state of residence. These are not “one size fits all” form wills. They are prepared on the basis of information provided by you and may include specific requests (“the dining room set to my sister”) and testamentary support trusts for minor children (meaning the trust will be created by your Will if your children are still minors at the time of your death). The lawyer who prepares your Will will send it to you with instructions on how to properly sign it in accordance with your state laws.
